Himachal Woman's Body Found In Bhakra Canal Hours After She Went Out With Policeman Friend

The body of 22-year-old Nisha from Himachal Pradesh was found in the Bhakra canal, Patiala. Her friend, Yuvraj, a police officer, has been arrested for her murder.

The body of a 22-year-old woman has been found in the Bhakra canal in Patiala, Punjab. The deceased has been identified as Nisha, a resident of Seru village in Panchayat Masauli, Jogindernagar, in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district.

A murder case has been registered against the deceased’s friend, Yuvraj (33), who has been taken into custody. Yuvraj, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib, was a police officer posted in Mohali. Police investigations revealed that Nisha and Yuvraj were friends.

    Earlier, on January 22, photos were shared on social media to identify her. Nisha had reportedly been living in Chandigarh for three years and undergoing training to be an air hostess. She had returned to her home in Jogindernagar and, on Monday, left for Chandigarh.

    After arriving in Chandigarh, she departed from her paying guest accommodation in Sector-34 with Yuvraj on the evening of January 20. This has been confirmed by CCTV footage of the area. Subsequently, she went missing, and her phone was switched off. The family filed a police report regarding their daughter’s disappearance.

    On January 21, Nisha’s body was found partially clothed in the Bhakra Canal. The body was recovered by the Bhole Shankar Divers Club. Nisha’s family identified the body at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala on the morning of January 22.

    The local police at Singh Bhagwantpur police station in Rupnagar district took custody of the body. On Wednesday, after confirming the girl’s identity, the police handed over the body to her family.

      ASP Mandi Sagar Chandra said that the Jogindernagar police station team received information about the girl’s death from Nangal police.

      The police have not released any information regarding the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death, and the investigation is ongoing. Nisha was reportedly pushed into the canal near Pathredi village, Ropar.
